Lesson 1 goals:
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
At end of lesson Students should have:
-Applied skills and research into listing out details of what their superhero will look like and how it will act. (Finished Superhero Brainstorm Sheet)
-Have a basic understanding of how to visually measure a proportionate person. (Answered questions in Adv. Stick Fig. Guided Notes)
-Apply knowledge of and practice drawing a proportionate person (Adv. Stick Fig. then "flesh it out"). (Drew their own proportionate person using template on sheet or drawing their own template, AKA Showed their work through inclusion of the height/head scale)
-Take practice figure and start designing what their Superhero will look like. (added in details onto their proportionate person practice)

Part 1: Practicing
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
We are going to start this lesson with learning how to draw a proportionate person. There will be TWO parts to this...
ONE: A guided notes/practice sheet. This will be filled out WHILE you watch PART TWO (video below).
To get a copy of the practice drawing sheet that you can either
A) PRINT at home, fill out, then bring to class;
OR
B) follow the directions above to save a copy in your Google Docs, share it with me, fill out the written questions portion, then FINALLY do the drawing portion (video below) at home on a separate piece of paper and bring in to class.
TWO: Watch the instructional video below. While watching it fill out the questions in the guided notes and do the practice drawing.

When you are done watching the video you should have a drawing or a proportionate person! Time to move onto our theme of this project.
Part 2: Learning
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ We currently live in a culture that is OBSESSED with superheroes, from movies to TV to books, there are fewer places for a person to look that does not have superhero culture in it then there is! Think about some of the superheroes you know? Who are they? What are their powers? Are they part of a team? If so what do they contribute to the team? What do their teammates contribute? etc.
Now that you have been thinking about this, watch the presentation below to look into Superheroes and their colorful background!round!

Part 3: Researching and Application
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________Who has not daydreamed about being a superhero?
For this project you will create our own superhero, so think about if YOU were a superhero what would your powers be? Think about the questions I posed above, and design a character relating to this. Continue reading to see how you will do this.
HERE is a link to a google doc that has is the guided research questions. This sheet will help you look into your favorite superheroes, why they are your favorites, and what similarities you might want to pull from them when designing your very own superhero.
In order to work on this sheet what you will need to do is:
1.) Log into your google account (through your email, log on icon is top right of page)
2.) Click the link above or HERE.
3.)When viewing the document go up to the document and "save a copy to your own drive". This is important because the document is a VIEW ONLY, in order to work on it you need to save a copy to your own google drive.
4.) After a copy has been successfully saved in your own drive/folders then RE-NAME it YOUR NAME Superhero Guided Notes
5.) Share document with me by going up to the top right corner of document, click blue button that says "share" then type my name into the window. When typing in my name my EMAIL should pop up, click on it and press enter. When my name/email is successfully in that area click the done button at bottom left of small window. It then tell you that it is shared with me!
When you are all done then start filling out the form with your brainstorm. Don't worry about saving; it does that automatically!
When your character brainstorm is filled out, move onto the actual creation of your Superhero!
Take this blank practice person you drew and its accompanying notes from PART 1: Practicing, and draw another person. This time try putting them in a stance, in other words, not standing normally. From there start brainstorming what you want your superhero to look like. Make sure to include details, accessories, exhibition of powers, etc.
Example:
Things to include in your design of your superhero: -They have a unique costume AND symbol. For example, Batman has the bat suit with his bat symbol on his chest.
-They display their power/ability
-They have some form of accessories, THIS COULD ALSO BE THEIR ABILITY!!! For example, Batman has his utility belt, Wonder Woman has her lasso of truth, Wolverine has his claws, etc.
-They are in a stance and are the appropriate height (8 heads tall)
